Peter Gusmano’s “A Flickering Light” is the sweet celebration of the electric guitar. The record delivers clear and beautiful melodies on a silver platter. Peter’s love for the instrument is obvious in the language his fingers speak.” -STEVE VAI (Grammy Award Winning Guitarist – Solo Artist, Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake)
Guitarist, drummer, songwriter, fundraiser and native New Yorker – My name is Peter Gusmano Jr. and I released my debut instrumental guitar CD “A Flickering Light” in 2010. The CD was met with great global reviews and at the same time raised awareness for ALS research. My desire is to deliver emotive melodies, strong heavy rock grooves and raw power to the instrumental guitar genre.
Guitar for a Cure ™- is a personal mission of mine. It was started when I lost my dearest mother to Lou Gehrig’s disease. The 16 months while my mother suffered was the most traumatic time in my life. To witness this disease is unthinkable…yet music was my outlet. The instrumental cd was brought to life upon entering the studio to record this special soundtrack after the loss. The project was met with much success and featured on NBC NonStop News and NYC Taxi Cabs, Fox Morning News, Newsday, Mediaweek, Clear Channel, CBS, Ad Age and many other local media outlets worldwide. The project was also named one of Project A.L.S.’ top independent fundraisers from 2010 to 2013. “Project A.L.S. is so very lucky to have such wonderful support by Guitar For a Cure for many years now. Peter Gusmano is our guitar hero in real life,” says Meredith Estess, President and Founder of Project A.L.S.
“A Flickering Light,” engineered by Carl Roa and Ethan Meixsell at Magic Elf Studios in Commack in 2009/2010, debuted a wide range of guitar styles from Michael Landau, Joe Satriani, EVH, Jerry Cantrell and David Gilmour. The instrumental CD, along with its soundtrack, helped me cope with losing my mother to ALS and was brought to the life through several media outlets as well as live performances. The live band includes Ethan Meixsell on bass/vocals and Ricky Martinez on drums/vocals. The live shows pull from the instrumental originals as well as the band’s favorite: classic rock with more emphasis on the “deeper” cuts fans would appreciate. We like to strike a mix of instrumental tracks from the cd that speak to listener as well as tunes that made us who we are. We all bring a different mix to the table and just love to play live. Ethan and Ricky are top notch and I am blessed each day to perform with them and spread the message for ALS.
I am a musician since the age of six. “Music is a constant evolution. For me, music ties back to vivid memories throughout my life. I write for the moment and try and place that music as a score for a time in my life. It’s an addiction. Now I can tie that passion into support a cure. As I hear more and more stories of people diagnosed with ALS, it fills me with emotion and I want to help.”
2014 looks to be an exciting year with more new music. The first single, released in January 2014 is entitled “Terrestrial Chatter” from the forthcoming new CD release coming later in 2014. This heavy rocker, driven by strong harmonies and melodic lines, features the amazing Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Lynch Mob, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums and special guest Bruce Bouillet (Racer X, The Scream, Epidemic) on guitars, Ethan Meixsell on bass and myself on guitars. This was the first tune I started on after “A Flickering Light.” It was all predicated on the fact that one night in my studio I picked up a weird signal of strange chatter coming through my amp, almost as if from another planet. It definitely was not something I ever heard and I felt like it was a conversation from another dimension. I sat listening to this for hours wondering what the heck I was hearing. Then as quick as it came, it left. I’ve never heard it again. And I wasn’t even plugged in, strangely enough. I immediately began to recreate these morphed voices on my synth pad and created these talking voices. It wasn’t until mix down that we slowed them down when it sounded like what I heard that night. I believe that everything happens for a reason when writing. The song has a strong groove with an emphasis on melodies with a memorable hook – one of my favorites to date. The single was engineered by James Lugo of Hemispheres Recording in North Carolina on the legendary SSL analogue board. James has worked with such artists as 311, Fuel, Iron Maiden, Dokken and various movie production studios. Mastering was by the awesome Dave McNair (David Bowie, Bob Dylan, SRV, Maroon 5, Vernon Reid). All guitars were recorded in my home studio on Long Island. Having the opportunity to be work with Brian Tichy and Bruce Bouillet is unreal – a dream come true.
As always, 100% of all sales of the full cd “A Flickering Light” and my new single “Terrestrial Chatter” is donated to Project A.L.S. To purchase the new single, visit iTunes and all digital outlets worldwide.

“I am thrilled about the new tunes about to come out. The new cd will include some awesome instrumental guitar heavy tracks as well as the first rock vocal tune called “Halo.” 2014 will be a positive year and I’m looking forward to creating new music and some great live gigs says Peter. Included in that will be some special ALS fundraisers. The cd will also have some very special guests and musicians who I am a major fan of. The passion I have is driven by all the people who are afflicted with this disease….and those who deserve a chance to find a cure. Project A.L.S. will make this happen and it’s the memory of my mom that keeps me moving forward to help.”
Meredith and all at Project A.L.S. care and have a personal mission about finding a cure…and helping the families whom suffer through losing a loved one. I will continue to dedicate myself and my passion to helping however I can…hoping one day that there will be a way to tell a loved one “you’re going to be ok…there is a cure.”
By day…I just celebrated 23 years in the Advertising and Media industry. Currently working with OMD as US Media Accountability and Procurement Director. Married, and a father…I reside on Long Island with my family and English Bulldog.
