What is ALS?

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, or motor neuron disease, is a fatal neuromuscular disorder that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles. It can strike anyone of any race or ethnic background. Most people die within 2-5 years of diagnosis.

ALS attacks motor neurons, large nerve cells in the spinal cord and parts of the brain that stimulate the body's voluntary muscles. Eventually, most muscles are affected, including those controlling movement, swallowing, speech, and breathing. ALS does not generally impair cognitive function. ALS is closely related to Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's diseases. CLICK HERE TO VIEW WHAT IS ALS VIDEO.
